The Skoda Octavia III RS, a wolf in sheep’s clothing

DriveramaMar 02. 2022

Is it an estate? Is it a saloon? Or is it both? Škoda drew on its many years of experience with estate cars and saloons to create the Octavia III RS. The Škoda Octavia III RS is the premium version of the already elegant Octavia family. So, it’s no wonder that the Octavia RS is also our best-selling model in Germany. And that has been the case for a few years now. It is fast, practical and well equipped. Škoda’s mid-size and compact cars seem to be getting bigger and bigger. But maybe that is just because since the introduction of the third generation of the Skoda Octavia, there is no longer a “small”. In 2017, Škoda presented a third model with even more style than its stablemates. Not only are the headlights fully LED, but the LED tail lights integrated into the rear bumper also provide a high-tech look which sets it apart from the crowd, giving the Octavia 3 RS a much more aggressive look.

Features which inspire

The RS is equipped with every imaginable extra, including cruise control, automatic climate control, heated seats and alloy wheels. The hatchback has all-round body protection and additional body panels on the front wings. The radiator grille guard, multifunction steering wheel and gear stick gaiter are only available for RS models. The upholstery with contrast stitching makes for an impressive yet practical appearance. Inside and out, the Octavia III RS presents a refined design which once again demonstrates Skoda’s ability to build cars which not only look good, but also offer optimum driving pleasure.

Changes in appearance

The front of the Octavia 3 RS is dominated by a large air filter with vertical slats. It comes in “black chrome” and is made of plastic, but has a high-quality appearance and sits firmly on the bumper. The air duct in the centre of the lower edge of the front spoiler provides additional downforce, which also improves handling. The black rear diffuser is extremely eye-catching; the roof rails are painted in the same colour as the body. Skoda also offers a new front spoiler, 19-inch wheels and sporty bumpers with air intake grilles as optional extras. The Octavia RS features other sporty touches, such as the red paint stripe with “RS” lettering on the boot lid. This stripe is finished in a carbon look as standard. The 19-inch bi-colour alloy wheels with a contrasting polished outer flange are particularly eye-catching.

Engine line-up of the Skoda Octavia III RS

All Škoda Octavia III RS models offer enhanced performance and driving dynamics, while the intelligent technology of the DCC (Driver Controlled Chassis) and TSI (Turbo Petrol Injection) engines deliver responsive driving. The TSI version of the Škoda Octavia RS is the Czech car manufacturer’s most powerful model in the RS class with an output of up to 245 hp. However, the RS also features a redesigned 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine with direct injection and with a turbocharged 2-litre four-cylinder. The key figures convey an engine speed of 6,200 rpm and an output of 200 hp, which deliver a commanding level of torque across the entire rev range.

Interior of the Skoda Octavia III RS

Why settle for a boring car? The Octavia III RS not only offers a truly exquisite driving experience. Everyone has a favourite car. And today MY favourite car is the Škoda Octavia III RS! The reason for this is that the Škoda Octavia III RS looks very stylish inside. Drivers will love the Octavia RS with its sports suspension and handling. The eye-catching extras, such as the lighting in the gauges, the climate control for the rear passengers or even just the extra buttons on the steering wheel, ensure that every driver will be able to feel at home in this car. The interior features high-quality materials and a sporty look with stainless steel pedals and carbon-look trim. Heated seats, a keyless entry system which can be operated at the touch of a finger and Bluetooth wireless phone connectivity add to the positive impression. There is no shortage of space in the rear. The Octavia RS Combi has one of the largest luggage compartments in its class with 590 litres of cargo space. With the rear seats folded down, the boot offers up to 1,600 litres of space. It is a large car with a wheelbase of 2750 mm. This is the longest wheelbase in the segment and ensures that legroom in the rear is as generous as possible. Due to its wheelbase, the new Octavia also has some of the largest doors in the segment, making entry and exit easier for those sitting in the rear seats.

Alternatives to the Skoda Octavia III RS

The Octavia III RS is always up against the competition and has won four awards from the International Car Association as the best car in its class. The Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata, Honda Civic, Ford Focus and Subaru Impreza are all alternatives to the Octavia III RS. However, the Skoda Octavia III RS is unbeatable. I have driven a lot of cars, but at this price and with this equipment, it can’t be topped.

And finally, the weak points of the Skoda Octavia III RS

Like every car, the Octavia RS has its weak points. Above all, it is heavier than its competitors. This means it is slower off the mark and slower to handle than the competition. But the differences really are very marginal and negligible in everyday life.

Resale value of the Skoda Octavia III RS

You will be pleased about this. A good car and an attractive resale value! The unmistakable Octavia chassis, the super-sporty handling, the brilliant interior and the outstanding equipment package all contribute towards this. With almost 250 hp, it is one of the most powerful cars under 300 hp on the road. You want to sell your Skoda Octavia III RS? Then just offer it to us.
